Anyone know what this part behind the fuel tank on the right rear side is called or used for? I notice Athearn has included it on the BNSF ES44AC that I have.It isn't present though on any of their pics of the BNSF models. I can't find one picture of an ES44AC,DC or C4 that BNSF has with that part attached.I did see a GE promo video on youtube showing a newly painted BNSF ES44C4 in the background with that part attached, but none on any locomotives in actual use.

Now that I know what it is. Makes me wonder now why the BNSF units don't seem to have it.
Thanks.

They probably have it in a different location. Like inside the hood, near the air compressor.

Drudge~
To further build upon Coy's reply, that is a Salem Air Dryer on Uncle Pete's unit. BNSF uses a different type of air dryer, I believe it is located behind the front truck on the engineer's side of their ES44C4s.

What's funny is in that video I posted of an ES44C4, it has the same air dryer behind the fuel tank, but the units on the road don't have it. I guess they might be removing the factory installed one.
