Hi friends! Long time no see! I'm planning to model a Brazilian RFFSA RSD12. These locos were built by MLW for RFFSA in the 60s. Although labeled as RSD12, these loco's body was similar to an RS32, due to overheating problems previously observed in other Alco locos operating in Brazil, like FA-1s, RS1s, etc. As most of these units have already been scrapped and the four remaining units are in yards far from Rio de Janeiro, it has been difficult for me to obtain detailed photos of these unusual trucks. As the brake cylinder arrangement is almost the same for RSD-12 and RSD-15, I would appreciate if anyone could send me detailed photos of these trucks, so I could model them accurately. The base model will be an Atlas Trainman RS32. RS32 B trucks will be replaced by RSD4/5 C trucks. Thank you, Flávio

Flavio,
Those trucks are the standard double-equalized Alco C trucks as used on everything up to the C630. The Atlas or Kato RSD4/5 trucks or the Stewart C628/C630 trucks are correct.
Looks like the body is closest to a dynamic-brake equipped RS32, although you can see where the extra length in the body is - look at your first pic and notice the space between the air intake and the cab. In an RS32 it's almost right up against the cab.
You could make a mostly-accurate model by using the Atlas RS32, an Atlas RS11 grab iron set, and a pair of Atlas RSD4/5 trucks which *should* fit right on the RS32 frame. You could also use an Atlas or Kato RSD4/5 and add an RS32 bodyshell.

Dear friends,
Thank you for all suggestions and explanations! As graftonterminalrr observed, I will use the Atlas RS11 grab iron set with some minor modifications. Atlas trucks do fit right on the RS32 frame, but they are not highly detailed as, for example, Broadway RSD15 trucks. Brake shoes and brake levers are not present. Thats why I asked you photos of the real truck. As Broadway sideframes are almost impossible to obtain, I will do some kitbashing to adequately represent the prototype.
Best regards,
Flávio

What you really want to use is an Atlas RS-36. The RS-32 was the 2000hp version and while it used the same body, it had an extra set of vents on one side. The LS&I 1804 was the last RSD-12 sold in the US and was built in 1963 with the same RS-36 style body. And as Atlas used the same trucks on the RSD-5 and RSD-12, either should work.
To make the Broadway trucks work, it would probably be easier to cut down the RSD-15 frame to fit than to modify the trucks and Atlas frame to work together. Not to mention that the Atlas frame would need to be lengthened anyways if you want to be 100% accurate.
For the RSD-12 Lasco lease units I will be doing for use on the CNW I'm just not going to worry about the extra length and go the easier route.
