Here is a quick guide to the U28B.
It was built for only one year, Jan. 1966 to Jan. 1967, with a total of 148 units built in two distinct phases.
The early version of the U28B (phase I) shared the same carbody as the phase IV U25B.
The later version of the U28B (phase II) featured a totally redesigned carbody. Air intakes relocated to behind cab, Protruding intake section under the radiator.
For a list of orignal owners and a breakdown of phases, see this site.
www.trainweb.org/jaydeet/u28b.htm
Models available: - phase I: N scale: none *(could use Atlas U25B as a stand-in). HO scale: Stewart U25B ph.IV (with its problems noted in U25B thread). - phase II: N scale: none HO scale: Athearn Walthers / Proto 2000
Enjoy, Dan

Really neat guide! BTW, they built these retroactively back to 1697!? Wow, who'da thunk it!
