Has anyone ever modified or built Triple Clasp Brakes on a Kato SD40? Are there any articles with pics?
Thanks, Matt

Yep, it's been done, and it's not too difficult but requires some parts.... When I did mine, I had a Kato SD40 with low mount trucks. I also acquired a P2K SD7/9 for the trucks, and sold off the rest of it. I trimmed off the low mount brakes from the Kato Flexicoils, and mounted the backing part from P2K sideframes which is the part which has the brakes shoes/hangars on it. Seems to me, I had to trim/file this part to fit. I probably posted some pics of what I did on the Chessie Modelers yahoos group, but have no idea if they are still there... It's been a long time since I did the conversion

I've done similar to DTINUT. The Lifelike (P2K) sideframes and trucks from the SD7/9 are interchangeable with the Kato SD40 counterparts . I have mounted the brake rigging and Flexicoil 1 sideframes of the SD7 onto the trucks of the SD40 to make it correct for my CB&Q SD40. I have mounted the brake rigging of the SD7 and the Kato Flexicoil 2 sideframes onto a Lifelike gear case to create 3 axle-double clasp trucks for my CB&Q SD45s. Below is a (not too well photographed) image of the P2K brake rigging applied with the Kato SD40 sideframe. I added the third brake cylinder and piping to get a more complete representation of the truck
