Hi Mark They had a V-12 251 prime mover, same as in the RS-11. There were no significant changes, if any, to the prime movers when CPR rebuilt the RS-18s in the 1980s. Cheers Steve

The RS18s were built with a 12 cylinder 251B prime mover. I can find no evidence that the RS18u rebuild program specifically replaced the prime mover.

They never replaced the prime mover, however they rebuilt the block itself, but never changed it in any significant way.

CP (and CN in the HR616s) toyed with different injectors in their big Ms to vary the HP, but I think everything was returned to normal in the end. I had heard that CP even changed the injectors in some RS18us briefly to test 2000hp output, but I can't verify this. The HR-412 had more HP from the V12, so its not a stretch to ask more of the block...
The RS18us had a 'dash 2' style electrical system with removeable solid state electrical 'cards' and a rudementary troubleshooting interface, and Steve, Taylor and Chris are correct with the engine type.
