Thank You, PVRR2647 Thank you for the kind comments and questions PVRR2647! Here is the link to the thread I started to show the detailing process. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics at various stages of weathering. However, I'll be glad to answer any questions you have about it. The scenery is just a small dio that I built to take outdoor pics of my models. Here are a few pics: It was made on a scrap piece of plywood and all of the track and scenery was scrap from building my layout. The base is dirt from my yard, sifted. The grass is static grass applied with a home built applicator. The rocks are plaster casts that were painted with acrylics and the shrubs and bushes were medium clump foliage and scenic express super tree remnants. The wetness of the "mud" is just Future Floor Wax (really acrylic gloss) on top of the "mud" and the tracks in it were made with a HO scale tractor when the plaster was still wet.

Analogbeatbox~
I appreciate the photos of the diorama I had to really study the photos that you posted, because I thought that they were proto photos. Your modeling skill are excellent, I can only imagine how nice your layout is.

Regards, PVRR2647 That's really cool that you thought the pics were proto at first and thank you! Well, my layout is only a lowly 4'x8'...the scourge of the model railroading community so it seems. lol Anyway, I tried my best with it and if I were to build again I would do some things differently. Here are a few pics for you:

Nick~ Your Layout is absolutely amazing, I would be proud to show it to anybody if it were mine. Don't let anyone tell you that you cannot build a great model railroad in a 4'x8', because you have done just that. I would trade my larger (unfinished) layout for your finished one any day of the week.

BTW, earlier I stated that "Here is the link to the thread I started to show the detailing process". It is not obvious (although I tried to change the color of the letters) but the word "link" is the hyperlink and if you click on it you will go directly to the thread on the detailing.

Nick~ Thank You for the clarification, I an still learning how to do stuff on this site as well. I should just use HTML as I learned that and a few real programming languages in college many years ago. I guess I'm just getting old!

Wow, that 4x8 is top notch! I recall an MR article from years ago, titled, "Can a 4x8 be Great?" Well I think you've proven that the answer is a resounding yes!

I built the layout as a test for myself. Obviously I wanted a way to run my trains (easily portable because I rent) but I also wanted to find out if I even had the skills to accomplish a layout. I would like to build a larger layout (around the wall style) one day but didn't want to go into that with no experience. Since the layout turned out decent and I learned a lot about what I would do differently (better) next time, I feel good about taking on the challenge at the point that I own a home.
