Hi all!
Im about to starting a painting project on a Athearn BB locomotive. I need to paint the handrails. Those metal, loose floppy things. Any idea how best to paint them using an airbrush? Any suggestions would be helpful :-)

Been a lot of years since I've done any of those ! When I did, I used to assemble the whole thing on the engine and glue all the stanchions to the rail with CA, then remove them from the model as one piece for painting. Combination of the glue and a good solid pinch would hold them in place pretty good.

Thanks for the reply Mark! I will give this a try. I have been looking at a liquid solder and as you say, a "good pinch". When you used the CA, did you have any problems with primer or paint adhering to the CA?

Paint and primer will stick to the CA, but you really shouldn't have so much on there that it shows anyway. Apply small amounts with a toothpick to both sides of the stanchion - it will wick into the joint enough to hold it solid. If you do get too much on, let it dry fully and dress the joint with a small file.

Fasha,
When I get too much CA on Athearn stanchions, I use the edge of a paper towel to wick all of the extra cement out of the joint. It's much easier than waiting till it dries. It leaves a more uniform amount in the joint also.
