Hey guys,
Some of you may already know this works but I thought I would share it for those of us that didn't and wanted to know.
I picked up two Dash 9-44CW shells and had a Rail Power Product dash 9 with frame but wanted to know if this would fit the Artheran shells.
Well with a little modification it seems to fit just fine.
I first carfully removed the cab and then cut the hood tab off with a pair of small side cutters then sanded it flush to the hood. This photo shows the cab reinstalled without the tab
I then cut the shell mounting tabs flush with the walk way again using the small pair of side cutters. Then with the Dremal I slowly ground down the high spots under the walkway as well as the high spots on the inside of both sides of the shell where the tabs used to be.
Once that was done I sanded the areas with a sanding stick to get them flatter without going too far and messing up the shell.
This is how she sits on the Rail Power Products frame.
This is the frame with the Athearn trucks that were used.
Now I am sure those of you who have those really cool milling machines will do a much neater job than I can do with what I have to work with but for a shelf model this seems to work just fine.
I want to tie this unit up with the NS SD60M I will be doing but I need to know from you guys what is the proper number sequence that NS used for this style of Dash 9's and would it get the Stallion on the side or just the NS and stripes? I also have a set of the High Adhesion side frames so if those need to be on this unit to make it more correct that will be done as well. Any information on this type of unit would be greatly appreciated.
Paulie
