Greetings~
I am new to the forum and am wondering about the cost calculations involved to qualify for the cheap build page. The heading says that the model has to come in under $100 to be eligible. Does that include items initially purchased but have leftover quantities of for other projects, or durable items such as an Airbrush ? I know that details for the specific project are to be included in the cost but what if you have say; a powered chassis with sound (that you probably paid way to much for), that you will be using under the shell ounce the model is completed ? Is the shell only eligible? I am not trying to split hairs here. I bought several RTR models years ago and was never happy with the details, paint, and the running characteristics. I'm now getting into stripping, detailing, repainting, and decaling shells that I have acquired to replace the factory shells, and tuning up the chassis for more reliable operation. I would appreciate any comments or clarification.
Once I know the answers, perhaps I can coax my wife into letting me use her digital camera that I gave her for Christmas, I got her the canon foamer special. She saw threw that pretty quickly, like when Homer gave Marge a bowling ball with his name on it! And she doesn't really let me use it for obvious reasons. But I digress.
Sincerely,

I cant answer these questions you have however I really enjoyed reading the parts about the camera. You really do bring up some good points though and I am sure the board will get back to you. Looking forward to your builds with all the striping painting detailing and decals you want to do because that is what we are all about here. Paulie

Paulie~
The my whole model railroad is based on the Pioneer Valley Railroad, hence the PVRR2647 name. The layout itself is actually the Merto Belt & Terminal Railroad from an old magazine by the "beer city bunch" the layout fits the space that I have available but it doesn't follow the Real PVRR track plan at all, however the industries are an exact fit for the PVRR. I have the bench work, wiring, roadbed, track, backdrop, and lighting completed. All of the structures are mocked up and will have to be scratch built. I plan on using the Lance Mindheim method of laminating most of the buildings using photos taken from public space or with permission along the PVRR right of way,(there's that camera problem again) to suggest the location. But the reason that I am taking the plunge into detailing and paintings is because the Athearn RTR PVRR CF7s are lacking when compared to the prototypes. and the whole roster is only 3 CF7s so I have no excuse for using detail lacking motive power. But I digress again. I don't want to derail the thread.
Regards, PVRR2647

Nothing is set in stone. The cheap build idea is meant to fudge a bit. I use excess parts I don't have any other use for, and do not include those in the price of my builds.

There would have to be a fudge factor allowed...nothing is cheap in this hobby anymore.

Looking forward to seeing your work. Paulie
