I have made some of these earlier, but always stuck to the athearn SW7 and GP9, cut and bash... This time its a Proto walkway/sill, Cannon cab, Atlas GP hood, along with some extras. Haven't decided which one to complete, as there are some differences between them. Probally go with the earlier version number boards with the raised headlights for the first one. The pilots have been removed from the walkways to be re-added, still a work in progress. The hood doors are from a couple other Atlas hoods, cut and matched so the latches and spacers are in the right places. A Kaslo shell has donated the under cab doors. That one took some thought, chopping a shell to get two doors, oh well. The end wall is drawn out and then drilled and filed to pretty close dimensions. I don't have the actual window size, so tried to go from photos, and have them space out so it looks right. The door will be an overlay as in the prototype. The other small door I made is from a Front Range shell. After Sean was nice enough to point out the grills were to low, and the doors to short on my lightweight GP, I cut 2 sets of doors into 3 pieces, removed the excess from a full height door to bring it down to the correct height for under the grills, to add back to the rest of my FR gp's The walkways have had extra added to the inside to support the narrower GP hood. Still working on some of the other details.

Great start. I have been wanting to build one of these for a while now. Do you have any rough dimensions for the cab end?

the windows are 28x30, and the outside was traced from the cannon end, still has to be trimmed to fit the cab when its installed

Good start there. Don't forget to trim off the batten strip between the different sized hood doors - it should only go down around the DB hatches on a GP9, not all the way down the hood to the walkway (like on the GP7).

thanks, almost forgot that strip. This would be so much easier if someone would make hood doors for the older GP's

When I built mine, I used two of these wall kits as I couldn't cut a nice window if I tried home.mindspring.com/~paducah/sw14.htmI Spliced two together to get the correct window placement.

lol, I have the same cab, never thought to splice them. Took me about 4 tries before I came up with one that I could use as a master to make more. If you have a photo of the cab face, the lower windows on the CN version are located more to the outside in line with the upper outer windows. the handbrake lever has to fit in between the door and the lower window.

I was willing to forgo that for the ease of getting the 95% correct wall with windows.

dug this project back out of a box, have the kaslo pilot plates, but now not happy with the original door spacing that I have looks to tight to the cab, so doing a little refit

trying a new idea, had a side made with laser cutting to mark out all the doors and cut holes for the knuckle busters, to be inserted from the back, and then just use the hood end and roof to complete it, looking for the photos now

Always have liked these rebuilds because of their similarity to ATSF's "Beep". Thanks for sharing your great model!!!

I've always thought these were cool builds too. Ive been tempted to try one but its a ton of scratchbuilding and bashing and I've got too many other irons in the fire right now.
