Looking good so far. It looks like the Genesis already has the correct size fuel tank, i had to chop the tanks on my two Protos. Not a fun undertaking.

Thanks for the comment, It does make it a lot easier that Athearn has more accurate details to model these units. I have shortened metal fuel tanks before and I agree it's not fun.

So far I have added the "primer" coat to the areas where the black paint is worn. I plan on using pigmented black ink over the primer area and wash away some of the black ink with alcohol to show the undercoat. I will post the result later this week.

I am liking this thread. I am interested in seeing how this ink works out. Keep it coming.

I'm anxious to see how your faded black looks. That could be a useful technique for older Milwaukee power (non-bandit). You'll have to post the process you used if it turns out good.

what a fun project! I can't wait to see how this comes out. -I'm also interested in seeing how the faded black technique works out.
it's also fun to see someone chop up a newer Genesis.

it's also fun to see someone chop up a newer Genesis. Just goes to show, even these new super detailed / road specific detail out of the box newer kits arent perfect either. I agree it is nice to see someone add detail to these.

I will admit it is a bit scary chopping up a newer model, but as you guys have mentioned. These models have a lot of detail, but there is still room to add more. Especially, when it comes to road # and era specific models that have been rebuilt or modified. I'm sure Athearn will eventually come out with a Bandit scheme GP38-2, but that takes some the fun out of our hobby when you just take it out of the box and put it on the track.

Its hard to do anything Milwaukee though with factory applied road specific details. They rebuild and modified all of their locos constantly. And they renumbered them just about every time the wind started blowing. Being a Milwaukee Road modeler, or anyone that had their locos post merger, definately has their work cut out for them.
Cant wait to see more progress.
