Pay careful attention to the color on those ebay deals. If it just says "white" it may lean towards a pure to bluish white. I've bought many of those bulk ebay LEDs from China, and for the most part they are ok, but they must be seconds as I've consistently found variations in color throughout the lot. Some even had a pinkish or greenish tint to them.
Same old story - you get what you pay for. But still, even if 1/3 of them are the color you want, it's still a great deal.

I've bought from ledbaron on a few occasions myself. I prefer the 0402 size, and once in a while he lists the pre-wired warm white 0402 size.

Thanks guy's for the earlier replies on SMD LED's I'll checkout those vendor's. Where could I find the very small gauge wire? And what gauge is the wire, AWG? Thank you.

you can also take apart an old motor and unwind some wire.

When I mentioned small gauge wire for soldering to SMD LED's I was thinking of the small gauge insulated flexible wire, the kind similar to what Ulrich use's on their SMD LED's. I think it's details west, or possibly Walther's that supply the DL frame and lenses for upper deck positioning. I just don't want to pay Ulrich or walther's prices, Regards tr1

I'm new to this, just getting started in detailing, thought self assembly could save some cash. Thanks, tr1

You can definitely save yourself some money by wiring them yourself - either good eye-site or a magnifying glass is mandatory, not to mention good soldering skills at soldering onto really tiny pads !
Here's one of a few tuitorials Laurie McLean has done on soldering 0402 LEDs ....

I thought that soldering magnet wire to LEDs would take a while to learn. Ol' Spike McThumbs got it, so anyone should be able to.

How long does it usually take to get them from China? I ordered 100 from a seller about a month ago and am still waiting for them to show up...

Being in Canada, I could get them quicker from China than the US ! - usually in about a week.

If I'm not mistaken, a Paypal account has to be tied to a credit card at least. That way, if you default on your payment, they can still get their money.

PayPal was part of EBay, but they split. You might even be able to use a bank account. Just use the site to set it up. EBay likely has a link.
As far as LED colour, CPR has been buying sealed beam units with halogen tubes inside the sealed beam units. They are being replaced as the conventional sealed beam units failed. This produces variation in the light's colour.
It has been posted here somewhere before that a dab of Tamiya orange paint on the LED will make a bright white LED correct to a more yellow beam. Try yellow paint for more white, like the halogen.
In the past I have kept looking on eBay to find the best deal on the LEDs. Same for magnet wire. Just be sure to have some lacquer clear nail polish to paint the LED terminals and solder joints, if you are using a metal light fixture.
