HI Colin,
I would use Tamiya X-8 Lemon Yellow and you could mix in some X-2 White to tone the yellow down a bit. This will give the yellow a bit of a sun faded look. Then you can weather it from there to give the caboose dirt and grime look to your liking.

Thanks, Erik. I was thinking of using Tamiya XF-3 Flat Yellow toned down with some Flat White (both of which I have already), so I'll go with that (they seem to be the same colours, just the matt versions).

Seems like trying to get an exact color match is always a hot topic. As you pointed out though, colors fade over time and in various conditions. In my opinion as long as the color is close we should be good, unless youre trying to model the day it rolled out of the paint shop.
