Hello all... So, I bought one of those Genesis 38-2Ws as CN 4769. My very last shift as a conductor with CN was April 23, 2011 (the day my avatar pic was taken) and we were working the night yard at London East and our units were 1437, and the very first CN GMDD widecab built, 4760. So it was fitting that I had to build that unit, but in my era of 1983, it was originally numbered 5560 before the SD60s came along. I started by carefully scratching off the cab numbers (real easy to flake off with an xacto) and added 5560 from the GTW diesel set (Genesis did white graphics instead of the proper CN grey) Also, the horn had to go back to the front, and the rear plow removed. I'm leaving the snowshields and ditchlights, which are 5 years too early in this configuration. 5560 was also the very last unit from the spartan cab GP38-2 order, so it rode on trade in trucks. I just so happened to score a cheap genesis ATSF F3 to cannabalize the trucks from. (anybody want the body?) I also noticed that it has the smaller fuel tank from the original order, so I grabbed an Atlas fuel tanks and dolled it up with Cannon parts. When spraying the SOU SD45 black, I dusted the underbody as well. voila!

Those Genesis GP38's are one of the nicest engines I own for sure. I see building a model of someone's "last run" locomotive is starting to catch on. Now you just need to find the numberboards from her like I was able to do with 3624.
This must have been before you were called in to "plow the London yard" was it?

Lol, no I was called into the December 2009 (or was it 2010?) storm after 3 months of layoff. I told them, sure see ya in 2 weeks! The snow was gone in 4 days...back on layoff for another 3 months! Loved the work and the guys, but the company was the pits. Doubt the numberboards will come up available until she meets the torch.

Update! This unit is off to Efram's backshop. Expect to see it back sometime in 2015 weathered with some serious skillz!

Back from Efram's weathering shop! Unfortunately he went a little heavy on the weathering on the side of the cab. I tried blowing in some orange to fix it but ended up making it worse. So I took a stiff bristled brush and some mineral spirits and started scrubbing off the grime...I think I stumbled across another weather technique! This was a team effort as Efram did most of the work. The rust all over the front truck is just the mineral spirit flick off the brush. I'll need to blend the trucks a little better, and add some more dusting to blend the cab. Oh and some fuel spillage. Again, my phone cam doesn't do it justice. I'll have to get some shots outdoor in the spring.

I love it. The Canadian cabs are very cool plus I've always thought that CN has the best paint schemes and color combo of all the modern class one railroads. That's a great looking unit.

Very nice!! Efram did a terrific job on the weathering, without a doubt! In my personal opinion, I would've had Rob Arsenault weather it as I have seen a lot of his work (all amazing). But don't get mistaken, Efram worked wonders on this, two thumbs up from me! Great work both of you!!

Efram's work was pro bono for a traded Conrail SD40-2. Besides, I usually weather myself but this was a good trade to help clear my backlog.
My pics really suck, it does look alot better in person.
