Hiya, A few wip pics of an SD40-2.......one of seven (7) This is an early pic......some details have changed.......the handrail set in the front is not the final location. The nose looks kind of sloppy in this pic........but I did use a thicker CA with accelerator and smoothed out the scratches.

That standard handrail set above the front anti-climber looks cool. Very reminiscent of the GE C30-7 and the C32-8, which, strangely I never liked the look of. Seems to work better on an EMD.

Yeah.............but it`s not really suppose to be like that.........I`m trying to find a set that will work right with the anti-climber that I`m using.

I`ll post a pic or three in the next few days......did some work on the truck sideframes......the cab and nose just need to be washed to be ready for paint......and a vent is needed on the cab yet...................need to fix the front anti-climber......I goofed it up and drilled the handrail holes in the wrong spot........about to place an order with Cannon & Co. for some parts.

Well......just got the Handrail sets today in the mail..........and I can not use them here is why. First pic is the set that came with the SD40-2........I changed the anti-climber to a Cannon & Co. # AC-2103 See second pic. In this second pic you see the new anti-climber This is the new handrail set compared to the original.....in pic three. The only difference is that the handrails would fit in front of the anti-climber ...not on top like the original. Pic 4 shows my problem.......I need to get the handrail to have the two center stanchions to fit on top and the two outer stanchions to fit on the side of the anti-climber..........pic 5 will show what I am trying to achieve. Now here is pic 5.......this is what I need to do. Also see this .....pic 6......maybe this will do better to show what I`m trying to do......

Looks like you will be using a combination of both sets and some hand formed wire to get those handrails??

Are you sure those are the snoot rails? The ones on my ATSF snoot are like the CSX one

The E bay listing that Brian posted here said they were...........maybe I`ll have to send a message to the seller about it.

I had to bend my own handrails to work on the jumbo anticlimber that I mounted on the front of my Kato snoots. You would probably be better suited to do the Athearn the same way. At one point a while back, you could get seperate stanchions from Smokey Valley to make whatever combination you desired. I don't know if you still can. Maybe to avoid the wait you can get the stanchion only sets....
Cheers, Mike

I have set #206 but I think I will need another set as these are for side mounting......not top mounting.

Well I got replacements........and they are exactly the same as the first set of 8 I bought........I sent another message to the seller along with pics of what they are suppose to look like........I think he is getting his parts from a shoddy supplier or else they were just plain mislabeled.....who knows.

He used to be really good. I had a recent issue with him too. I was supposed to get an SDP35 with a low-nose light, I got one without...

Hey, I just figured out what's going on with the seller. The handrails he lists are for the BB SD40-2s.
I got a hold of Athearn, and ordered some handrails. I got one for my ATSF SD40-2 and my BN SD40-2. Both have the anticlimber and handrails like the CSX one pictured.
The hard part is getting someone at athearn to pick up the phone, lol (I tried for over a week). Unfortunately, I don't have the part number for BNSF green. But BN green(your GP30 looks close to BN green) is 95364. They cost about the same as what the guy on Ebay has them listed for.
