Great work
I also had the same question about the grilles. Also would these be about the same material/type of material for the radiator grills on top of a tunnel motor?

Thanks for the comments Stephen & Jim. I have some bad news concerning the material used for the grills. It's not available right now. I spoke with Mark who is owner and produces items from On The "Mark" Models and he said that the negatives that he was using for these sets were not producing a good enough product any more and that he will have to retool. He also stated that the demand had dropped for these items. He did say that if there was enough demand for the product, he would produce it again. I spoke to him just before this post so this would be current information. May be we can get enough going to get this stuff back on the market. I mentioned this forum and he said he would be glad to let the world of Model Railroading know when he would produce more. OTM Models mostly supplies for Military type modelers mostly. He had offered several different types of mesh in X small, Small, Medium & Large. Both 90 degree and 30/60 which would be awesome for Alco modelers which could use it for the intake screens. Part number 403 is perfect for doing GE radiator grills on U series and dash 7 series units. This is the same that I used on the SW1500 here as it was just handy. Although not many SW1500s have a square pattern grill. Most are a rectangular pattern. To answer the question about using this on Tunnel Motors, Part #401 would be just right for that, It would be the same patern as what I have used here. But smaller. But again. Not available right now. I sure hope that these peaces will come back around. With the in put from this forum, It is very possible that Mark will put these sets out again. David,
Wow, that's a really great model you are building there. I would be more proud to own that then a RTR version from Athearn. If Mark produces those etching again, I would like to get some. It has lots of potential for many projects.
Thanks for sharing the info you had about the OTM parts. Brian Everett

Sometimes I find it hard to have the patience your work shows. It looks much better than a RTR. I would also like to thank you for your tutorial on the process you use. Matthew

Matthew Thanks a bunch Matthew! And your very welcome for the tutorials. I hope that it could be of some use to some one and I find I can answer several questions by using that technique. I still catch my self criticizing my work very harshly though. I find too many flaws in the photos, LOL! But they seem to be only visible in the photos and not when viewing the model in person. I plan on doing some more work on here in the next few days since the holiday season has give me some time off. David S.

K&S makes a number of brass mesh sheets like the one from On the Mark. They come in different size grids, so maybe one of them would make a suitable alternative.

David,
Simply outstanding! ;D I greatly applaud your modeling. The one up you have on Athearn is the front radiator fan...it's still solid plastic!

David, Simply outstanding! ;D I greatly applaud your modeling. The one up you have on Athearn is the front radiator fan...it's still solid plastic! Perry Thank you very much Perry, half the battle is over. I still need to get a few parts for this one. C&C walk way tread, Steps ect. The next big thing is the frame and truck details. I'm going to get some of that in over the next few days. The radiator fan is something I have not seen anyone do. So I had to be different, LOL! Rest assure, I may not do that again. But I still have one more Butt Head I want to build, So I might wind up back treading on my word. The one thing that disappoints me on the front grill is that I should have came one more rowe in on the bend on the right side. It is just a smidgen off center. I noticed this after I took the photos. To try and correct this, I know I would ruin the grill I made and I have a very limited amount of this material left. I still have to make it last through three more GE dash 7 radiator builds. I'm hoping once the hand rails are installed. It will take my eye away from this blunder. Cutting this mesh is a difficult thing as it's very easy to loose your point even with marking where you want to cut. It's like being lost in a maze. I went ahead and used the On The Mark Models mesh as with the Plano parts, The fan would be very hard to see. I can't wait to see the out come of this once painted and weathered. David
