I am going to build IAIS SD38-2 #153. Base model is a Kato SD38-2. I will be cannonizing this and then adding some detail parts. First order of business is to strip the shell, and then start adding Cannon parts. This is the unit that I am modeling. www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=85159

Ebay project, Unless somebody here wants it.... An hour or so of blasting and this is what you get. Pretty obvious to see what is getting replaced. lol It looks nasty right now but I would bet you money that the paint is going to stick really well. After a little inspection I found something. A couple small dings in the fuel tank.

Add these to the Cannon parts I am adding to the model. Here is where I am at. The sub base is glued to the walkway. I will glue down the nose but leave the cab unglued until I am done painting and decalling, so I can install the windows.

What did you use to cut the rear of the long hood? I drilled holes in between the Kato grab iron holes. I then connecter the holes using an X-acto knife. Once most of the rear end is gone, i nipped off close(about 1/4") to the parting line with my Xuron nippers. Then wittle away the plastic with an X-acto knife. Once you get close to the parting line on the shell, take out your files and go slowly do you don't overshoot the line. -Andrew

Thanks for the tip Andrew It wasn't originally my idea. Brian Banna and Bob Harpe remove everything this way so I figured I would as well. Well last night I sprayed on some reefer yellow to the ends. the paint was aplotchy so I blasted it off and am going to try again. While i was sandblasting I also did the rest of the detail parts, and cannon parts that I added, so that the paint would stick really well.
