Howdy DD! I come to y'all once again for wisdom and assistance.
By the end of May I will have graduated college, moved to a new city, started my first "real" job, and hopefully started my first HO layout. Needless to say things are going to be busy. However to keep myself sane in these less than sane times, I plan to detail my Spindletop locos. The first item on the list is to replace the current fans with some Cannon and Co parts. My sound loco decoder is producing a copious amount of heat and the solid Trainman body does not help this problem. To help dissipate heat better I want to use mesh fans on the top of the long hood.
So here is the big question: which fans do I need/you suggest? I have very little knowledge about such things as this and there are very few images of the fans which is where I normally get my info from. The loco in question is a Trainman GP39-2 that is being used in a modern up to date fleet. This will also be my first time cutting into a shell and replacing parts so I'm a bit nervous about messing it up...
*Edit* I know that their site has a listing of which fan can go on what, but I am also interested in hearing from y'all about it.

Okay thank you for the advice guys! I will go with the 1705 since this is a modern engine with recent rebuilds. I will talk to Dave as well just to be sure. And antlorch thank you for the dynamic brake fan link, I had overlooked that one!

shop away Anthony, but you won't find the Q-fans that you need to redo that GP39-2. The dynamic break fans are the norm, just look at pics if you want to match a specific loco, otherwise maybe just get the most modern they have. To get Q fans, really your only options are brass (which are hard to find) or Proto 2000 (which I believe are hard to get, I'm not sure if they'll sell you just the fans) and finally Athearn's newest releases I think have some nice Q fans. See if they have em in the parts dept. Lastly Details Associates makes Q-fans.
