rummaging thru the parts bin, I came across enough parts to make the basis of a CN GR12 using Athearn and cannon parts. The body was a B&O TR2 B unit, so I soaked it in brake fluid and tossed the B unit cab removed the rad louvers, grille and stacks. I had 2 packs of Cannon thinwall SW kits, so I built one up. I know what you're thinking... "why use the old Athearn kit which is almost as old as the NW2?" but I can disguise it enough to require a double take to see if its an Athearn. The Cannon cab pulls this model out of the toy realm. It'll probably be CN 1209 in this paint scheme. www.cnrphotos.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=7362I sent the frame off to my miller today (along with 3 Athearn GP38 frames to have the bolsters milled down 0.030") so that should be back in a couple weeks with a thinner fuel tank so I can mount full air tanks. Here's another Athearn SW I turned into a CN GR12. Its more inaccurate than 1209 will be, because of the wrong carbody louvers, wrong cab subbase door and lack of knucklebusters but oh well... With us moving to a new home next month, with some renovating to do, this is a miser year, and as I pack my stuff, I'm finding projects I already have. If all goes well, I shouldn't have to buy anything new RTR wise!

Progess pics! Got my Rzasa (custom finishing) parts, winterization hatches, and one early GR12 numberboard, so I'm making a casting box of it and going to cast what I need in resin. Test fit to 1381s chassis, as 1209s is still at the miller's shop to get some material milled off the fuel tank area. the cannon cab is just sitting on the deck. MBE GP9 pilots added too.

Thanks Russ!
Small update, Custom finishing front and rear numberboards came in and the front one is installed. rad grilles and bell installed.
Both the MBE and Juneco fuel tank sides don't have the correct number of air tank piping runs so I had to bend new ones from 030 wire.
Still waiting on the milled chassis to show up...

A suggestion for your mold box.....
Pick up some Lego blocks. Its much easier to build a box using them over brass....and they are re-useable!
You can ususlly pick up a bag at garage sale cheap.

I had a whole wack of scrap strips of brass, so I'm just using it up... I actually value my kids lego more than brass...truth it I play lego more than my kids do....

I like this build! I have and undec kit I picked up before the BB loco's disappeard, I was gonna sell it thinking it better to find a P2K and work from there. But looking at the 1381, I think adding on the DA radiator parts and a C&C cab could make this a viable build after all. Thanks for the inspiration!

That Flexi-Flo looks awesome. I have been looking at all the local train shows to find one, so I could detail it to todays standards. So far, no luck. Once, again, it look great.

Are the Athearn BB sw-7s powered or dummies? I am trying to get cannon cabs on the athearn frame, but find it interferes with the gear tower and cover. Hopefully with end up with an athearn power train and and either the athearn walkways with cannon cab and proto hood ( the athearn walkways are a scale foot to long) or the walkways and hood from proto and the cannon cab, if I can solve the power truck problem

Yeah, the gear tower swings just inside the back door. you have to cut out almost the entire cab floor.
Athearn BBs come either way...

Progress! Getting it ready for decals (testing of the colours of the New CN decal set) I love the MM flat black paint! Very chalky! I'm rethinking that this will be numbered 1250 with one of the watchman heaters.
