Has anyone thought of doing MILW's A-1-A trucked RSC-13's and RSC-24's? Not a lot of photos online...just wondering. Dave C

Here's one I did about 6 years ago. Major kitbash involving 2 RS1 shells, the cab from an RS2, new roof, trucks from an RSD, sideframes from Tiger Valley and extending the long hood a scale 9 inches.

Thanks Peir,
I got tired of waiting for someone to manufacture this so I did my own. I was going to also try the RSC24 but it's hard to shoehorn a motor into that one.

That RSC-13 is so cool! I've never even seen a model of one, in any scale.
I am currently building a second RS-18 and I was thinking of buying some more RS-11's and doing the same, excect instead of RS-18's I'd make some RSC-14's. RSC-14's are essentially RS-18's with A-1-A trucks scavanged from RSC-13's and RSC-24's. They had 1400 hp and a lighter fuel load than the RS-18's they were built from. They could be found across Eastern Canada, especially the maritimes.
Long story short, who makes A-1-A truck sideframes and how do you alter the trucks for them?

Hi !
I plan to make a RSC-24. I have the article on Model raildoading but it's very old. However It's a good source for starting point.
Anyone have any information about this model ? Picture ? idea ?
I'm planing to start with a shell of RS-1 and a cab of RS-2.
Anyone have some dimension, specially of the height of the hood ?
Any help will be apreciate.
Thanks !

Long story short, who makes A-1-A truck sideframes and how do you alter the trucks for them? Well, my dad built 2 RSC-13s and an RSC-24. One 13 and the 24 had cut down Atlas RSC trucks but that made the inbound axle an idler and neither unit pulled very well. on his second 13 he used the Kato RSC truck with Tiger Valley sideframes and it pulls so much better that he changed the 24's trucks to Kato (thats why the sideframes are black and not weathered in the photo) the RSC-24 was absolutely useless pulling with the modified Atlas trucks. It'll pull 20 cars on level track now. (mind you every cubic inch of interior space is weighted now) I imagine Guil from Tiger Valley still has sideframes in stock, and I know Minatures by Eric has the sideframes too.

There a couple articles years back in RMC I think, one protoype and another on building a unit, dont remeber if it was powered or not> I do have the origianl articles if someone would like copeis, there is a scale drawing as well in the article. Miniature by Eric does make the right side frames. Its also on mylist to do ( long list). I;m looking at the Atlas RSD trucks as the first 2 axles are right, and then scratch build a frame to adjust the spacing on the third axle, it just wont be powered, so would end up being an A-A-1, but from outside no -one will know.

There were originally four RSC-24's built. They could be seen east of Montreal until the early 1970's when they were mostly assigned to the light branch lines in the Annapolis Valley. 1802 was written off in May of 1969. It was on the head end of a passenger train which collided head on at Point a La Garde (on the Gaspe, slightly northeast of Campbellton, NB) with a passenger train. I have the original wreck photos of that one.
EDIT I see that the article mentions the wreck at Point a la Garde, my grandmother's brother was on the head end of the freight in that wreck (hence why we have the photos) As for operating on PEI, that is false, the only A-1-A's to operate on PEI were the RSC-13's and the RSC-14's.
Thanks for the info Tom
