Ok so foolish is as foolish does or something to that effect. A couple years back I 'mistakingly' bid on a RPP shell and frame for a C40-8 hoping to turn it into one of the LMS usits on CN. Long story short that didn't happen. In the meantime I had picked up an Atlas C40-8 drive, and an Atlas B40-8 and I aways likes the C39-8s. Push came to shove and I started lastnight. I started by cutting the eight engine room doors from the B40-8 shell and then removed the 6 doors from the RPP shell. While I was at it I liked the look of the Atlas rad section that seemed to be a good swap. Somewhere sanity left so I decided to change them out. The white is a brace since I had to remove so much material from the Atlas part. Next I decided that the RPP exhaust looked horrid. Out came the Atlas one and after much cutting, filing and filling it dropped right in there. Next plan is to replace the nose

Looks like a good start. I can tell you've had the RPP Shell for a while from the dusty walkway.

Does the C39-8 use the standard GE cab like the one off a C30-7?

Does the C39-8 use the standard GE cab like the one off a C30-7? Not sure. The front door is different for sure but then again the Hi-tech looks the same as the C30-7. Others I have talked to about this suggest that the Hi-tech post 1972 two window cab would be a good one. I just need to alter the door and maybe have a look at the numberboard. *Edit* I just found head on shots of a C30-7 and a C39-8. roof line is very different C39-8 www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=779453C30-7 www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1193669

Well, back to ebay. My only other option would be creating a roof for a Hi-tech cab or splicing a SW1200 cab roof or SW1500 roof on one.

No problem. In looking at the PPW site, I notice that the shell I hav ebeen working on is indeed the C32-8 shell.....I can't remember if I got it with a cab or not. I better start looking around again.

OK, so it has been almost 2 months since I did anything. So here goes. I test fit the front part of the RPP shell on the Atlas C40-8 chassis and realized a little modification was required The conductors side needed a little material removed in the frame in the subbase area. The weight where the speaker goes also needed a little mod to allow the lower RPP cab to sit there and in order for the nose to sit a bit better allowing some wiggle room I also need to remove some material from those nubs for the wires and light. That part hasn't happened yet. I also needed to make the weights a little shorter to fit the Atlas B40-8 tanks. I took even amounts of material from either end centering the tank on the frame. Ideally, I would cut the hood from here and fit it on a C40-8 sill modifying the subbase but that isn't gonna happen. As you can see, I modified the step on the conductors side and there needs to be some better fitting and seating of components. And here it is loosely cobbled to gether without glue to see what I need to do. I need to add a spacer in the engine room section, get the rear weight modified to seat the wing better and get teh cab going on better. Then the detailing can begin.

Quick Question on the C32-8 kits. What does everone do for the numberboards? Mine are hollowed out but lighting them is not essential. Also does anyone have an extra Hitech GE anticlimber laying around?

H'kay so I finally glued all the pieces together and added a few items I salvaged from the Atlas B40-8 sill. I noticed in the picture how crooked my drop grabs are. Anyone know of a drilling template being manufactured? I also need to detail up the air tanks and figure out a way to install them so they come off with the fuel tank. A few other items to add like the Aline steps, windshield wipers, anticlimber MU cables and connectors and also fit the handrails
