Well... I'm not entirely sure if this counts as a Baldwin or an EMD, so I put it here.... This is a model I did a few years ago of the Santa Fe's "Beep"... literally a VO1000 with GP7 trucks, hood, and engine. The Clebourne shops must have gotten bored one day and hacked apart a couple locomotives to see what they could come up with. Prototype:

No, its an old Atlas yellow box GP7 long hood. The trucks are from a Kato GP35.... had to mill out the frame a bit so they'd have some room so swivel, but the bolsters were the correct height and placement.

I still have the unit. I've never sold anything I built, although I may start doing that soon because I'm running out of things to build and I don't have the funds to get anything new!
This was actually my first real kitbash. Since then, I've done a lot of other stuff (high noses, mostly), but nothing ever this complex involving two full locomotives (and actually a third for the trucks). I don't think I'll ever sell the Beep.

On the prototype they're not GP7 trucks, they're off of an F3, and the hood was fabricated in house by ATSF. I've been thinking about dropping a Stewart VO-1000 on Stewart F3 trucks, with an Atlas hood, all bashed to match.
That project is on the back burner behind many other ideas...

The BEEP was a dress-rehearsal for the CF-7 program to test the fit of the engines and sheetmetal. With the CF-7's, a frame had to be fabricated as well to replace the truss sides of the F-units. Well... I'm not entirely sure if this counts as a Baldwin or an EMD, so I put it here.... And for those of you who care, the real BEEP has been preserved and will be shipped to Barstow.

Rudy - Good lookin' model! One suggestion though; the original exhaust stacks should be removed so the spark arrestors fit all the way down against the hood.
Nice job!

Go to BING.com, maps, Topeka, Ks. Head towards 1st and Adams which is the Santa Fe Topeka Shops. Select aerial-bird's eye view and you will find the Beep sitting just a few feet sw of the main shop building. I'm not sure if this was it's last assignment before heading to Cali for a well deserved retirement or not but it's has to be close. I love the bird's eye view, it has helped me answer many questions about the prototype.

I used Kato GP35 trucks because I had them on hand, although the Stewart F3 trucks would probably be easier. The Kato trucks, however, fit the bolster height perfectly, and only required some milling of the frame so that they would swing properly. As for the hood, I found out after I did this one (with an Atlas GP7 hood) that a RPP/Athearn CF7 hood would be a much closer match. If you do one, I suggest you use that instead.

Thanks, I might be able to get the Athearn CF7, which should have a slightly cleaner hood then the RPP.

It is the first time I see someone builds a scale model of this very unique diesel. Very very accurate and well reproduced, congratulations!!!
